For all of you who think taking a long trip on a motorcycle is the thing to do, see below: Under the rainsuit (which has water draining off it are my leathers. It was mid-40's all day with rain, wind, more rain and then more wind......... Just a whole lot of fun.
We rode from north of Anchorage to Whittier and the scenery (what we could see of it) was great. It is a shame we couldn't see most of it. The road follows the bay all the way south to Homer with the mountains all around you, plus the water on the side. Everything is so green (where it isn't covered with snow - you know, that global warming stuff). Waterfalls from the melt everywhere. Sure would have been nice, even if it wasn't sunny to at least not have rain so we could have been taking pictures. We were able to get a few, but the cameras kept getting wet. Couldn't ride and take pictures like normal.
See the ice/snow going all the way to the water line. Pretty amazing.
The passage to Whittier goes through a railroad tunnel under the mountain. The motorcycle path is actually between the tracks. As if that wasn't enough excitement, the area between the track is metal grating. Nice and slick with the water/oil mix from all the vehicles and trains ahead of us. They make the motorcycles go last in case you have an accident, the ambulance can get to you easier. Did I tell you the tunnel is almost 3 miles long? Well, it was. More pucker power.........
Tomorrow, we catch the ferry from Whittier to Valdez. About a 6 hour ride. Hope it is clear enough that we can get some pictures. We won't get into Valdez until 8:30 tomorrow night. Depending on how tired we are and what lounge services are available on the ferry, there may or may not be a post. Just have to wait and see...........
That's all folks................
