Day 3

Well, we've traveled almost 2,000 miles and we still aren't half way to Fairbanks. On Saturday, we hit a late afternoon storm. There was no place to pull over. The lightning was ferocious. We finally saw a pullover for a picnic area. 30 seconds after the stop, the rain hit hard!!!!! Here is where we waited it out:

The last 3 days have been a whole lot of boring. Lots of corn, cattle, canola, etc. It took almost 45 minutes to clear the border. When we stopped, we gave them our passport and then answered the questions. Here are some of the questions: Are you carrying any firearms - no. Do you own any firearms - yes. What do you own - rifles, shotguns, pistols. Do you carry a gun when you travel in the states - only in Texas (just a little fib). Do you have any alcohol - no (again, a small one). Any tobacco - same. Are you going to leave anything in Canada - only the food and drink I get rid of, plus a lot of money.....................

Tonight we are spending the night in Medicine Hat Alberta. Got checked in and headed for the bar to have a cold drink. My hard riding biker buddy did it again. Waitress asked what he wanted to drink. His answer - a martini!!!!!!!!!!

We've met a lot of people who all ask where we are from and where we are headed. When we tell them we are going to Alaska, 99% of them respond with "No sh!t !!!!!" It has been really funny.

Tomorrow headed for Calgary and from there to Jasper and the National Park. Should be some really beautiful scenery. I'm ready for some. We should be on the Alaska highway in the next couple of days.

Ok, that is it for me. Dave is waiting to update his blog and it will soon be time for bed. 5 am comes really early!!!!!!!
